The voltage regulator test is something  that should be done to test your voltage regulator to ensure that it is performing with 100 percent performance.  There are many voltage regulator tests that can be  performed and here a few will be listed and touched base on.   

Voltage Regulator TestOne of the voltage regulator tests that can be performed is to verify that the voltage regulator is properly grounded.  Make sure that the electrical and charging system is on and that you have the VOM (Volt-Ohm-Milliammeter) negative lead connected to the ground.  If you are registering any measurable voltage, then the voltage regulator is not properly grounded.

The turn ratio test is another voltage regulator test that can be performed.  This voltage regulator test will determine the turn ratio of the regulator by precisely measuring the voltages across the unloaded windings and then will display them in voltage ratio.  This type of voltage regulator test will measure turn ratios that will range from 0.800 to 15,000.

Then there is the doble voltage regulator test.  This is a voltage regulator test in which the windings and the bushings are tested of the voltage regulator.  This voltage regulator test is sometimes called a power factor test.  You will discover the ratio of the power that is dissipated in watts to the apparent power under a sinusoidal voltage.  This voltage regulator test is generally performed by a trained technician but there are doble voltage regulator tests available on the the market that can achieve this type of testing.  Other voltage regulator tests that can be done are the oil filtration and degassing test and the pt ratio test.
