Power Voltage Regulator
Power voltage regulator is just another name for a voltage regulator. A power voltage regulator is a device used for maintaining a constant output voltage regardless of the variations in the power supply voltage or the current that is being drawn from the load. The output voltage will be steady and accurate over a large range of load current when you use a power voltage regulator. What Makes A Good Power Voltage Regulator?
High Versus Low Power Voltage RegulatorA high power voltage regulator can tend to be rather inefficient. They are big and complex and tend to be more expensive and more fragile. The performance of a high power voltage regulator also gives off a much poorer performance than a low power voltage regulator. When speaking of a high power voltage regulator, it is best to obtain a low and flat output impedance. When the output impedance is lower, this means that the power voltage regulator is going to reject any disturbances to the output voltage. When low output impedance is not possible, then it should at least be flat in any frequency responses. Features Of The Power Voltage RegulatorRegardless if they are high or low power voltage regulators, there are three features that they all have. The power voltage regulator will have a voltage reference that calibrates the output voltage. These voltage references can be made from zener diodes, neon bulbs or precision resistors. When the voltage reference is accurate and stable on the power voltage regulator, the better the voltage reference is. This voltage reference doesn't need to be the same as the output voltage since it can be scaled up or down with a feedback or a voltage divider. The second feature that the power voltage regulator will have is what we call a pass device. This pass device will adjust the current that is delivered to the load. The pass device must be able to function from no load to full load. It also must be able to withstand any heat that is generated. Pass devices can be tubes, triodes or pentodes, transistors, MOSFETs or FETs. The third feature that the power voltage regulator will have is a feedback mechanism. This will respond to any errors at the output of the power voltage regulator. What this does is sample the output voltage and then compares it to the voltage reference. When there is a difference of voltage, an error signal occurs and sends it back to the control portion of the circuit. It will either increase or decrease the flow of current through the pass device on the power voltage regulator. Where To Find A Good Power Voltage Regulator?Contact
